Paper Planes
dir. Robert Connolly (2015)
Uncomplicated, unpretentious, its Australianness ensconced rather than pushed, Paper Planes eschews quirkiness as a raison d’être and instead folds a genuinely moving father/son relationship into its straightforward emotional design. Sam Worthington’s crumpled-up loss conflates beautifully with Ed Oxenbould’s hopefulness and fragile resilience.
