While the civil war strand introduces an uncomfortable fraughtness into the Bobiverse, Bob’s exploration of Heaven’s River entails a level of thought experiment more geekishly indulgent even than in previous books. The juxtaposition is odd, the delivery redemptively charming. Audiobook a must.

Hard to recommend by and of itself, but very satisfying as a continuation of (conclusion to?) the Bobiverse saga. Taylor’s nerd-SF enthusiasm remains infections and Porter’s audiobook reading is very much part of the narrative characterisation. Ties up all major plot threads.

Book 2 of Taylor’s Bobiverse series is very much an instalment, not a self-contained work. Peculiarly engrossing open-ended SF speculation.

We Are Legion (We Are Bob)

Despite a paucity of character and story arcs (at least within this first volume), there is something very appealing about Taylor’s geek-cool, freewheeling what-if scenario. Porter’s audiobook reading is spot on as a cohort of AI Von Neumann probes guide humanity’s destiny.
