DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Season 1
(2016)
Spinoff characters from Arrow and The Flash travel through time to avert a supervillain’s world-ending rise to power. Unabashedly formulaic, wonderfully nonsensical and—more so than its parent programmes—faithful to the comic strip spirit, Legends doles out plenty of gooey escapism.
Arrow, Season 4
(2015-2016)
Season four returns the Green Arrow to his comic strip roots, with all semblance of realism thrown to the wind. The threat level skyrockets—a laughable escalation—even as the actual danger plummets. Echo Kellum is a welcome addition as Curtis Holt.
Arrow, Season 3
(2014-2015)
The theme of identity runs heavy through Arrow Season 3, with an upping of the characters’ personal stakes, relationship issues, deceptions, and ability to recover very quickly from both near- and actually fatal injuries. The show remains stylish, though out of control.
Arrow, Season 2
(2013-2014)
Some degree of mishap is necessary for our superheroes not to have it all too easy, yet season two seems a bit early for Oliver Queen to be making *such* bad decisions. Still, the tormented ebb and flow remains hard to resist.
Arrow, Season 1
(2012-2013)
Arrow champions a darker strain of superhero vigilantism. The action scenes are stylishly choreographed and filmed, while Oliver Queen’s rather impassive (‘brooding’, in comic book terms) character is given some depth through flashbacks to his torturous five year stint as a castaway.
