Very much ‘inspired by’ rather than ‘based on’, this BBC American adaptation of Douglas Adams’ Dirk Gently books takes a simple outlandish idea and builds strangeness upon strangeness. As per Adams, the plot is essentially meaningless but brilliantly funny in the unfolding.
